How Do You Rate?

I recently discovered Diamond Dame...a blog about all things vintage. It is one of the reasons I haven't gotten to bed at a decent hour for many days.

While I read, I store away all manners of useless knowledge of the past...oh, how I love it. Love, love, love it.

However, considering that I have recently turned 22 (and I am unspeakably jealous of Diamond Dame's vintage picnic birthday party coming up) and my brother tells me I am on the verge of becoming an Old Spinster, when I found this on the blog, I thought it best to take...

The 1930's Husband & Wife Test

And see what I needed to work on before I was ready for matrimony.
I rated at 62...A "Superior" housewife...but I also cheated, because I have never been married so I can't really know these answers until then.

Would you pass as a good housewife/husband in the 1930's?

Eggnog: The Great Debate

Normally it would be against my principles to have Christmas-themed posts before December even hits the calendars.
But when inspiration hits, who am I to deny it?
Also, this is another In-Preparation-For-The-Christmas-Season type thing. You need to know where eggnog stands in your household, before the time comes.

In my experience, most people feel quite strongly about eggnog, one way or the other. This iconic seasonal drink either repulses, or delights.

The thick texture, heavily spiced flavor, and knowledge of raw (gasp!) eggs in the mix, turn many away.

However, there are a few eggnog fanatics in my household. My youngest brother, Tim, in particular, inspired this post with his Facebook vow to create an eggnog cheesecake. Tim, who resists pouring his own bowl of cereal in the morning; Tim, who would rather waste away living on granola bars than cook his own dinner; HE voluntarily decided to bake himself an eggnog cheesecake.

Its true love.

Every since he was a wee one, Timmy has loved his eggnog. In Christmas' past, during eggnog wars when we had to mix our 'nog with milk, Tim would simply go and buy his own, write his name on the carton, and gloatingly sip pure, undefiled eggnog in front of the rest of us. This was back in the day when income was $10/month, earned by braving the frigid elements of the outdoors and delivering papers. That carton of eggnog was a serious expense, but to him it was worth it.

Eggnog is a topic that everyone has an opinion on. I have heard people hate on it as passionately as Tim loves it. It makes some people gag. Some can't even stand the smell.

I love that people of this variety have voted on the poll already! In fact, every view has already been represented, and I haven't even voted yet! Having grown up in nog-lovin' household, I need to ask all your eggnog haters: what is it about the nog that you hate?!

My Turn

Click to view my Personality Profile page

I've taken the personality test, and the results are in...I am "INFP-- The Dreamer"!
Not really a label I would have given myself, and I don't fit the entire description (I don't think) but it gets pretty darn close.
I love doing these quizzes and learning more about myself, so I enjoyed reading the in-depth analysis and deciding what was "me", and what wasn't.
"INFPs are introspective, private, creative and highly idealistic individuals that have a constant desire to be on a meaningful path. They are driven by their values and seek peace. Empathetic and compassionate, they want to help others and humanity as a whole. INFPs are imaginitive, artistic and often have a talent for language and writing. They can also be described as easygoing, selfless, guarded, adaptable, patient and loyal."

What I found interesting was what one of the links had to say about how INFP's feel about their careers and how they learn.
"As young adults, INFPs may have some difficulty finding the ideal career and the ideal mate, in part because of that very word 'ideal'. They have a vision in mind of what they want, yet reality may not follow suit. They may make several starts and stops in their career until they find a comfortable place for themselves...
...INFPs need a purpose beyond the paycheck...Their job must be fun, although not racous, and it must be meaningful to them...They want to be recognized and valued, without undue attention given to them. They may become embarrassed when made the center of attention...INFPs are quite disorganized. But when tasks at hand are important and best done in an organized way, INFPs strive to do so."

Any clues in there as to why I was so unhappy working at Tim Hortons?!

As for learning, thank goodness my parents decided to homeschool! What a blessing...

"INFPs learn best in flexible situations where they know the teacher takes a personal interest in them. They like to be able to interact with their peers, but not too much so. They want to feel free to dig into subjects that are of interest to them...Subjects that hold a great deal of interest for them are learned readily. They will often do extra work in their attempt to learn as much as possible about something of interest. "

And a few other random glimpses of my personality:

INFPs seldom confront situations directly, in part because they do not like conflict. Whenever possible, they would rather wait for a situation to work itself out, since they trust that people will work things through...They do not like following all the rules and regulations, but they are not overtly rebellious...INFPs' leisure activities are done alone --- reading, listening to music, and gardening are some activities likely to appeal to them.

This was one link that I found particularly accurate for me. Enjoy!

Memory Catcher

"Leave one memory that you and I had together. It doesn't matter if you knew me a little or a lot, anything you remember! Don't send a message, leave a comment on here. Next, re-post this in your notes and see how many people leave a memory about you. It's actually pretty cool (and funny) to see the responses"...

I Never Liked Tag

I've been tagged and have decided to play along. Here are the rules… Each person tagged gives 7 random facts about themselves. Those tagged need to write in their blogs the 7 facts, as well as the rules of the game. You need to tag seven others and list their names on your blog.

1. I have never owned a pair of sunglasses in my life! It used to be because I always wore glasses, but now that I have contacts, its because I look stupid in them.

2. I'm a sucky conversationalist, espeically with people I don't know well. I love chatting with people who like to talk because then the pressure is off.

3. I have a strong hatred for "crocs" or "hole-y soles". I think they are the most hideous creation for the feet since someone decided it was acceptable to wear socks with sandals.

4. Old Disney movies bring me much joy. Robin Hood, 101 Dalmations, and Mulan are a few faves. I still watch them.

5. I love stuff for houses. I could spent eons browsing through HomeSense, Home Outfitters, etc.

6. My hair is falling out by the handfuls. When I wash my hair, my hands get covered. Yuk! What is wrong with me?

7. I heart corderoy (is that how you spell it?). Such a comfortable fabric.

Pretty much everyone has been tagged already and since I hate doing this I won't make anyone else do it either :)
